Thank You Smock Girls!

Hi Brother and Sister Smock,

My name is Sister Ryan Jenkins. I met some of your family at the University of Arizona in Tucson, back in 2009. At the time, I wasn't sure if moral absolutes still existed.

I just wanted to let your daughters know I was impressed by how they were willing to listen to me. I was in my last semester at college and I was taking a class that involved learning about feminism and then analyzing books and movies through a feminist lens.

I know that generally, we don't think of feminism as being compatible with God, but I had just learned (that semester) of a type of feminism called "essentialist" feminism. This branch of feminism says that there are essential differences between men and women. These differences result in men being better at some things than women are, and vice versa.

I remember talking to two of your daughters about how that form of feminism matches up with a lot of Bible-based Christian views. For instance, I believe that men are best suited for leading families and the church as a whole. I also believe that women are naturally inclined to be more nurturing than men. I think I'm better than my husband at making our apartment feel like home, but I also want to make sure he likes the decisions I make regarding meals and decorations.

Your daughters were so nice to me. At the time, I was still pretty worldly, but I was starting to "come to myself." I had recently ordered a new copy of the Bible off Amazon. I was trying to get back into the habit of praying daily, and I had just started going to church on a weekly basis for the first time in several years.

I don't think that your preaching directly guided me back to God, but your presence helped me remember to think of Him.Sis. Pat, Prissy, Sis. Cindy, Bro. Jed

I was baptized in May 2009. From April 2009 until July 2014, I abstained for all unchaste behavior AND alcohol.  In July 2014, I married a good Christian man who loves God more than he loves me. I know that my life turned out this way because I chose to follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized.

Anyways, keep having conversations with students! You never know who you will save!
