John answered, "No one can have anything unless God gives it.

Then they tried to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.

God sent me ahead of you to rescue you in this amazing way and to make sure that you and your descendants survive.

So it was not really you who sent me here, but God. He has made me the king's highest official. I am in charge of his whole country; I am the ruler of all Egypt.

This time I will punish not only your officials and your people, but I will punish you as well, so that you may know that there is no one like me in all the world.

But to show you my power I have let you live so that my fame might spread over the whole world.

You are great and powerful, glorious, splendid, and majestic. Everything in heaven and earth is yours, and you are king, supreme ruler over all.

More than once I have heard God say that power belongs to him

He looks on the people of the earth as nothing; angels in heaven and people on earth are under his control. No one can oppose his will or question what he does.

Everyone must obey state authorities, because no authority exists without God's permission, and the existing authorities have been put there by God.

Every good gift and every perfect present comes from heaven; it comes down from God, the Creator of the heavenly lights, who does not change or cause darkness by turning.

One of them, named Caiaphas, who was High Priest that year, said, "What fools you are!

Don't you realize that it is better for you to have one man die for the people, instead of having the whole nation destroyed?"

So Judas went to the garden, taking with him a group of Roman soldiers, and some Temple guards sent by the chief priests and the Pharisees; they were armed and carried lanterns and torches.

At this the High Priest tore his clothes and said, "Blasphemy! We don't need any more witnesses! You have just heard his blasphemy!

They put him in chains, led him off, and handed him over to Pilate, the Roman governor.

The traitor had given the crowd a signal: "The man I kiss is the one you want. Arrest him and take him away under guard."

Jesus answered, "If you were blind, then you would not be guilty; but since you claim that you can see, this means that you are still guilty."

They would not have been guilty of sin if I had not come and spoken to them; as it is, they no longer have any excuse for their sin.

If the miracles which were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, the people there would have long ago sat down, put on sackcloth, and sprinkled ashes on themselves, to show that they had turned from their sins!

"The servant who knows what his master wants him to do, but does not get himself ready and do it, will be punished with a heavy whipping.

But the servant who does not know what his master wants, and yet does something for which he deserves a whipping, will be punished with a light whipping. Much is required from the person to whom much is given; much more is required from the person to whom much more is given.

For how can those who abandon their faith be brought back to repent again? They were once in God's light; they tasted heaven's gift and received their share of the Holy Spirit;

And then they abandoned their faith! It is impossible to bring them back to repent again, because they are again crucifying the Son of God and exposing him to public shame.

But if it grows thorns and weeds, it is worth nothing; it is in danger of being cursed by God and will be destroyed by fire.

So then, if we do not do the good we know we should do, we are guilty of sin.
