I come to you, LORD, for protection; never let me be defeated. You are a righteous God; save me, I pray!

in you, my God, I trust. Save me from the shame of defeat; don't let my enemies gloat over me!

Defeat does not come to those who trust in you, but to those who are quick to rebel against you.

The oppressed look to him and are glad; they will never be disappointed.

Don't let me bring shame on those who trust in you, Sovereign LORD Almighty! Don't let me bring disgrace to those who worship you, O God of Israel!

It is for your sake that I have been insulted and that I am covered with shame.

I bared my back to those who beat me. I did not stop them when they insulted me, when they pulled out the hairs of my beard and spit in my face.

But their insults cannot hurt me because the Sovereign LORD gives me help. I brace myself to endure them. I know that I will not be disgraced,

Now you will have plenty to eat, and be satisfied. You will praise the LORD your God, who has done wonderful things for you. My people will never be despised again.

Then, Israel, you will know that I am among you and that I, the LORD, am your God and there is no other. My people will never be despised again.

My enemies will know the bitter shame of defeat; in sudden confusion they will be driven away.

May those who try to kill me be defeated and disgraced! May those who plot against me be turned back and confused!

May those who gloat over my suffering be completely defeated and confused; may those who claim to be better than I am be covered with shame and disgrace.

May those who try to kill me be completely defeated and confused. May those who are happy because of my troubles be turned back and disgraced.

May those who make fun of me be dismayed by their defeat.

I will speak of your righteousness all day long, because those who tried to harm me have been defeated and disgraced.

Cover their faces with shame, O LORD, and make them acknowledge your power.

May they be defeated and terrified forever; may they die in complete disgrace.

"Those who are angry with you will know the shame of defeat. Those who fight against you will die

and will disappear from the earth.

Those who make idols will all be ashamed; all of them will be disgraced.

But Israel is saved by the LORD, and her victory lasts forever; her people will never be disgraced.' "

And so I tell you that those who worship and obey me will have plenty to eat and drink, but you will be hungry and thirsty. They will be happy, but you will be disgraced.

They will sing for joy, but you will cry with a broken heart.

But you, LORD, are on my side, strong and mighty, and those who persecute me will fail. They will be disgraced forever, because they cannot succeed. Their disgrace will never be forgotten.

Many of those who have already died will live again: some will enjoy eternal life, and some will suffer eternal disgrace.

The LORD is not praised by the dead, by any who go down to the land of silence.

"He protects the lives of his faithful people, but the wicked disappear in darkness; a man does not triumph by his own strength.

'Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?' the king asked him. But the man said nothing.

Then the king told the servants, 'Tie him up hand and foot, and throw him outside in the dark. There he will cry and gnash his teeth.' "
