For the gospel reveals how God puts people right with himself: it is through faith from beginning to end. As the scripture says, "The person who is put right with God through faith shall live."

God puts people right through their faith in Jesus Christ. God does this to all who believe in Christ, because there is no difference at all:

And just as all people were made sinners as the result of the disobedience of one man, in the same way they will all be put right with God as the result of the obedience of the one man.

So we say that the Gentiles, who were not trying to put themselves right with God, were put right with him through faith;

I will tell of your goodness; all day long I will speak of your salvation, though it is more than I can understand.

I will go in the strength of the LORD God; I will proclaim your goodness, yours alone.

Your righteousness, God, reaches the skies. You have done great things; there is no one like you.

Look up at the heavens; look at the earth! The heavens will disappear like smoke; the earth will wear out like old clothing, and all its people will die like flies. But the deliverance I bring will last forever; my victory will be final.

they will vanish like moth-eaten clothing! But the deliverance I bring will last forever; my victory will endure for all time."

The LORD says to his people, "Do what is just and right, for soon I will save you.

The LORD says, "The time is coming when I will choose as king a righteous descendant of David. That king will rule wisely and do what is right and just throughout the land.

When he is king, the people of Judah will be safe, and the people of Israel will live in peace. He will be called 'The LORD Our Salvation.'

"Seven times seventy years is the length of time God has set for freeing your people and your holy city from sin and evil. Sin will be forgiven and eternal justice established, so that the vision and the prophecy will come true, and the holy Temple will be rededicated.

They are wrong about sin, because they do not believe in me;

they are wrong about what is right, because I am going to the Father and you will not see me any more;

Christ was without sin, but for our sake God made him share our sin in order that in union with him we might share the righteousness of God.

From Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ--- To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have been given a faith as precious as ours:

while God's people, who were seeking a law that would put them right with God, did not find it.

And why not? Because they did not depend on faith but on what they did. And so they stumbled over the "stumbling stone"

You think that what you do is right, but I will expose your conduct, and your idols will not be able to help you.

All of us have been sinful; even our best actions are filthy through and through. Because of our sins we are like leaves that wither and are blown away by the wind.

But the teacher of the Law wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "Who is my neighbor?"

Jesus said to them, "You are the ones who make yourselves look right in other people's sight, but God knows your hearts. For the things that are considered of great value by people are worth nothing in God's sight.

Jesus also told this parable to people who were sure of their own goodness and despised everybody else.

The Pharisee stood apart by himself and prayed, 'I thank you, God, that I am not greedy, dishonest, or an adulterer, like everybody else. I thank you that I am not like that tax collector over there.

Once more I warn any man who allows himself to be circumcised that he is obliged to obey the whole Law.

Those of you who try to be put right with God by obeying the Law have cut yourselves off from Christ. You are outside God's grace.

and be completely united with him. I no longer have a righteousness of my own, the kind that is gained by obeying the Law. I now have the righteousness that is given through faith in Christ, the righteousness that comes from God and is based on faith.

You say, 'I am rich and well off; I have all I need.' But you do not know how miserable and pitiful you are! You are poor, naked, and blind.

I advise you, then, to buy gold from me, pure gold, in order to be rich. Buy also white clothing to dress yourself and cover up your shameful nakedness. Buy also some ointment to put on your eyes, so that you may see.

and caused me to turn against them and send them into exile in the land of their enemies. At last, when your descendants are humbled and they have paid the penalty for their sin and rebellion,

You have done right to punish us; you have been faithful, even though we have sinned.

Each one will say in public, "I have sinned. I have not done right, but God spared me.

The LORD's unfailing love and mercy still continue,

We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our rulers, our ancestors, and our whole nation.

Our kings, our rulers, and our ancestors have acted shamefully and sinned against you, Lord.

At last he came to his senses and said, 'All my father's hired workers have more than they can eat, and here I am about to starve!

I am no longer fit to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired workers." '

'Father,' the son said, 'I have sinned against God and against you. I am no longer fit to be called your son.'
