If you and your descendants will turn back to the LORD and with all your heart obey his commands that I am giving you today,

Even if you are scattered to the farthest corners of the earth, the LORD your God will gather you together and bring you back,

The LORD your God will give you and your descendants obedient hearts, so that you will love him with all your heart, and you will continue to live in that land.

and you will again obey him and keep all his commands that I am giving you today.

but you will have to obey him and keep all his laws that are written in this book of his teachings. You will have to turn to him with all your heart.

If in that land they truly and sincerely repent and pray to you as they face toward this land which you gave to our ancestors, this city which you have chosen, and this Temple which I have built for you,

Let the wicked leave their way of life and change their way of thinking. Let them turn to the LORD, our God; he is merciful and quick to forgive.

The people say, "Let's return to the LORD! He has hurt us, but he will be sure to heal us; he has wounded us, but he will bandage our wounds, won't he?

In two or three days he will revive us, and we will live in his presence.

Return to the LORD your God, people of Israel. Your sin has made you stumble and fall.

"But even now," says the LORD, "repent sincerely and return to me with fasting and weeping and mourning.

Let your broken heart show your sorrow; tearing your clothes is not enough." Come back to the LORD your God. He is kind and full of mercy; he is patient and keeps his promise; he is always ready to forgive and not punish.

So Jacob said to his family and to all who were with him, "Get rid of the foreign gods that you have; purify yourselves and put on clean clothes.

"Now then," Joshua continued, "honor the LORD and serve him sincerely and faithfully. Get rid of the gods which your ancestors used to worship in Mesopotamia and in Egypt, and serve only the LORD.

"Then get rid of those foreign gods that you have," he demanded, "and pledge your loyalty to the LORD, the God of Israel."

They stopped worshiping the LORD and served the Baals and the Astartes.

Once again the Israelites sinned against the LORD by worshiping the Baals and the Astartes, as well as the gods of Syria, of Sidon, of Moab, of Ammon, and of Philistia. They abandoned the LORD and stopped worshiping him.

The LORD your God will give you and your descendants obedient hearts, so that you will love him with all your heart, and you will continue to live in that land.

Now serve the LORD your God with all your heart and soul. Start building the Temple, so that you can place in it the Covenant Box of the LORD and all the other sacred objects used in worshiping him."

And to Solomon he said, "My son, I charge you to acknowledge your father's God and to serve him with an undivided heart and a willing mind. He knows all our thoughts and desires. If you go to him, he will accept you; but if you turn away from him, he will abandon you forever.

"O LORD, the God of our ancestors, in your goodness forgive those who are worshiping you with all their heart, even though they are not ritually clean."

Put your heart right, Job. Reach out to God.

Put away evil and wrong from your home.

We may make our plans, but God has the last word.

The LORD says to the people of Judah and Jerusalem, "Plow up your unplowed fields; do not plant your seeds among thorns.

Keep your covenant with me, your LORD, and dedicate yourselves to me, you people of Judah and Jerusalem. If you don't, my anger will burn like fire because of the evil things you have done. It will burn, and there will be no one to put it out."

Give up all the evil you have been doing, and get yourselves new minds and hearts. Why do you Israelites want to die?

'These people, says God, honor me with their words, but their heart is really far away from me.

God is Spirit, and only by the power of his Spirit can people worship him as he really is."

Honor the LORD your God, worship only him, and make your promises in his name alone.

Have reverence for the LORD your God and worship only him. Be faithful to him and make your promises in his name alone.

Follow the LORD and honor him; obey him and keep his commands; worship him and be faithful to him.

Then Jesus answered, "Go away, Satan! The scripture says, 'Worship the Lord your God and serve only him!' "

"You cannot be a slave of two masters; you will hate one and love the other; you will be loyal to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
