Do not be a terror to me; you are my place of safety when trouble comes.

You are Israel's only hope; you are the one who saves us from disaster. Why are you like a stranger in our land, like a traveler who stays for only one night?

Our ancestors put their trust in you; they trusted you, and you saved them.

The LORD roars from Mount Zion; his voice thunders from Jerusalem; earth and sky tremble. But he will defend his people.

That is why I asked to see you and talk with you. As a matter of fact, I am bound in chains like this for the sake of him for whom the people of Israel hope."

From Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by order of God our Savior and Christ Jesus our hope---

The LORD says, "Just as a thief is disgraced when caught, so all you people of Israel will be disgraced---your kings and officials, your priests and prophets.

You will all be disgraced---you that say that a tree is your father and that a rock is your mother. This will happen because you turned away from me instead of turning to me. But when you are in trouble, you ask me to come and save you.

Everyone who worships idols is put to shame; all the gods bow down before the LORD.

Those who make idols will all be ashamed; all of them will be disgraced.

But Israel is saved by the LORD, and her victory lasts forever; her people will never be disgraced.' "

"But it will be different for you that forsake me, who ignore Zion, my sacred hill, and worship Gad and Meni, the gods of luck and fate.

And so I tell you that those who worship and obey me will have plenty to eat and drink, but you will be hungry and thirsty. They will be happy, but you will be disgraced.

Listen to what the LORD says, you that fear him and obey him: "Because you are faithful to me, some of your own people hate you and will have nothing to do with you. They mock you and say, 'Let the LORD show his greatness and save you, so that we may see you rejoice.' But they themselves will be disgraced!

I will forgive all the wrongs you have done, but you will remember them and be too ashamed to open your mouth." The Sovereign LORD has spoken.

Israel, I want you to know that I am not doing all this for your sake. I want you to feel the shame and disgrace of what you are doing. I, the Sovereign LORD, have spoken."

Many of those who have already died will live again: some will enjoy eternal life, and some will suffer eternal disgrace.

The LORD says, "I will condemn those who turn away from me and put their trust in human beings, in the strength of mortals.

Those who abandon you will certainly perish; you will destroy those who are unfaithful to you.

Bad people will get what they deserve. Good people will be rewarded for their deeds.

But he will crush everyone who sins and rebels against him; he will kill everyone who forsakes him.

Good people will be remembered as a blessing, but the wicked will soon be forgotten.

But don't be glad because the evil spirits obey you; rather be glad because your names are written in heaven."

They said this to trap Jesus, so that they could accuse him. But he bent over and wrote on the ground with his finger.

Then he bent over again and wrote on the ground.

Those who did not have their name written in the book of the living were thrown into the lake of fire.

for my people have committed two sins: they have turned away from me, the spring of fresh water, and they have dug cisterns, cracked cisterns that can hold no water at all.

Israel, you brought this on yourself ! You deserted me, the LORD your God, while I was leading you along the way.

We feast on the abundant food you provide; you let us drink from the river of your goodness.

You are the source of all life, and because of your light we see the light.

Jesus answered, "If you only knew what God gives and who it is that is asking you for a drink, you would ask him, and he would give you life-giving water."

but those who drink the water that I will give them will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give them will become in them a spring which will provide them with life-giving water and give them eternal life."

On the last and most important day of the festival Jesus stood up and said in a loud voice, "Whoever is thirsty should come to me, and

whoever believes in me should drink. As the scripture says, 'Streams of life-giving water will pour out from his side.' "

because the Lamb, who is in the center of the throne, will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of life-giving water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."

And he said, "It is done! I am the first and the last, the beginning and the end. To anyone who is thirsty I will give the right to drink from the spring of the water of life without paying for it.

The angel also showed me the river of the water of life, sparkling like crystal, and coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb

The Spirit and the Bride say, "Come!" Everyone who hears this must also say, "Come!" Come, whoever is thirsty; accept the water of life as a gift, whoever wants it.
