Joshua 1:1
After the death of the LORD's servant Moses, the LORD spoke to Moses' helper, Joshua son of Nun.

The LORD said to Moses, "Take Joshua son of Nun, a capable man, and place your hands on his head.

Have him stand in front of Eleazar the priest and the whole community, and there before them all proclaim him as your successor.

Give him some of your own authority, so that the whole community of Israel will obey him.

He will depend on Eleazar the priest, who will learn my will by using the Urim and Thummim. In this way Eleazar will direct Joshua and the whole community of Israel in all their affairs."
Deuteronomy 3:28
Give Joshua his instructions. Strengthen his determination, because he will lead the people across to occupy the land that you see.'
Deuteronomy 31:7
Then Moses called Joshua and said to him in the presence of all the people of Israel, "Be determined and confident; you are the one who will lead these people to occupy the land that the LORD promised to their ancestors.
