Some Jews who traveled around and drove out evil spirits also tried to use the name of the Lord Jesus to do this. They said to the evil spirits, "I command you in the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches."

At once they screamed, "What do you want with us, you Son of God? Have you come to punish us before the right time?"

"What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Are you here to destroy us? I know who you are---you are God's holy messenger!"

"Ah! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Are you here to destroy us? I know who you are: you are God's holy messenger!"

Demons also went out from many people, screaming, "You are the Son of God!" Jesus gave the demons an order and would not let them speak, because they knew he was the Messiah.

So Nebuchadnezzar went up to the door of the blazing furnace and called out, "Shadrach! Meshach! Abednego! Servants of the Supreme God! Come out!" And they came out at once.

The king said, "Praise the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego! He sent his angel and rescued these men who serve and trust him. They disobeyed my orders and risked their lives rather than bow down and worship any god except their own.

So the king gave orders for Daniel to be taken and thrown into the pit filled with lions. He said to Daniel, "May your God, whom you serve so loyally, rescue you."

When he got there, he called out anxiously, "Daniel, servant of the living God! Was the God you serve so loyally able to save you from the lions?"

"I am a Hebrew," Jonah answered. "I worship the LORD, the God of heaven, who made land and sea."

Live as free people; do not, however, use your freedom to cover up any evil, but live as God's slaves.

And Melchizedek, who was king of Salem and also a priest of the Most High God, brought bread and wine to Abram,

May the Most High God, who gave you victory over your enemies, be praised!" And Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of all the loot he had recovered.

Abram answered, "I solemnly swear before the LORD, the Most High God, Maker of heaven and earth,

I call to God, the Most High, to God, who supplies my every need.

They remembered that God was their protector, that the Almighty came to their aid.

Listen to my account of the wonders and miracles which the Supreme God has shown me.

"The Supreme God made your father Nebuchadnezzar a great king and gave him dignity and majesty.

He was driven away from human society, and his mind became like that of an animal. He lived with wild donkeys, ate grass like an ox, and slept in the open air with nothing to protect him from the dew. Finally he admitted that the Supreme God controls all human kingdoms and can give them to anyone he chooses.

What shall I bring to the LORD, the God of heaven, when I come to worship him? Shall I bring the best calves to burn as offerings to him?

and screamed in a loud voice, "Jesus, Son of the Most High God! What do you want with me? For God's sake, I beg you, don't punish me!"

When he saw Jesus, he gave a loud cry, threw himself down at his feet, and shouted, "Jesus, Son of the Most High God! What do you want with me? I beg you, don't punish me!"

Then he led them out and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"

They answered, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved---you and your family."

He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him home with them and explained to him more correctly the Way of God.

"Go in through the narrow gate, because the gate to hell is wide and the road that leads to it is easy, and there are many who travel it.

But the gate to life is narrow and the way that leads to it is hard, and there are few people who find it.

Then they sent to him some of their disciples and some members of Herod's party. "Teacher," they said, "we know that you tell the truth. You teach the truth about God's will for people, without worrying about what others think, because you pay no attention to anyone's status.

They came to him and said, "Teacher, we know that you tell the truth, without worrying about what people think. You pay no attention to anyone's status, but teach the truth about God's will for people. Tell us, is it against our Law to pay taxes to the Roman Emperor? Should we pay them or not?"

to tell his people that they will be saved by having their sins forgiven.

and to shine from heaven on all those who live in the dark shadow of death, to guide our steps into the path of peace."

These spies said to Jesus, "Teacher, we know that what you say and teach is right. We know that you pay no attention to anyone's status, but teach the truth about God's will for people.

Jesus answered him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one goes to the Father except by me.

We have, then, my friends, complete freedom to go into the Most Holy Place by means of the death of Jesus.

We have a great priest in charge of the house of God.
