The Word was the source of life, and this life brought light to people.

God sent his messenger, a man named John,

This was done to make come true what the prophet Isaiah had said,

The people who live in darkness will see a great light. On those who live in the dark land of death the light will shine."

Our God is merciful and tender. He will cause the bright dawn of salvation to rise on us

and to shine from heaven on all those who live in the dark shadow of death, to guide our steps into the path of peace."

A light to reveal your will to the Gentiles and bring glory to your people Israel."

For this is the commandment that the Lord has given us: 'I have made you a light for the Gentiles, so that all the world may be saved.' "

that the Messiah must suffer and be the first one to rise from death, to announce the light of salvation to the Jews and to the Gentiles."

All of you that honor the LORD and obey the words of his servant, the path you walk may be dark indeed, but trust in the LORD, rely on your God.

God did not spare the angels who sinned, but threw them into hell, where they are kept chained in darkness, waiting for the Day of Judgment.

These people are like dried-up springs, like clouds blown along by a storm; God has reserved a place for them in the deepest darkness.

Remember the angels who did not stay within the limits of their proper authority, but abandoned their own dwelling place: they are bound with eternal chains in the darkness below, where God is keeping them for that great Day on which they will be condemned.
