And if you speak only to your friends, have you done anything out of the ordinary? Even the pagans do that!

"What about you?" he asked them. "Who do you say I am?"

"What do you think about the Messiah? Whose descendant is he?" "He is David's descendant," they answered.

"Tell us," they said, "are you the Messiah?" He answered, "If I tell you, you will not believe me;

Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."

"Good for you, Simon son of John!" answered Jesus. "For this truth did not come to you from any human being, but it was given to you directly by my Father in heaven.

But Jesus kept quiet. Again the High Priest spoke to him, "In the name of the living God I now put you under oath: tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God."

"What about you?" he asked them. "Who do you say I am?" Peter answered, "You are the Messiah."

But Jesus kept quiet and would not say a word. Again the High Priest questioned him, "Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed God?"

At once he found his brother Simon and told him, "We have found the Messiah." (This word means "Christ.")

"Teacher," answered Nathanael, "you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!"

"Come and see the man who told me everything I have ever done. Could he be the Messiah?"

and they told the woman, "We believe now, not because of what you said, but because we ourselves have heard him, and we know that he really is the Savior of the world."

And now we believe and know that you are the Holy One who has come from God."

Others said, "He is the Messiah!" But others said, "The Messiah will not come from Galilee!

"Yes, Lord!" she answered. "I do believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who was to come into the world."

But these have been written in order that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through your faith in him you may have life.
