While the women went on their way, some of the soldiers guarding the tomb went back to the city and told the chief priests everything that had happened.

"Take a guard," Pilate told them; "go and make the tomb as secure as you can."

So they left and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and leaving the guard on watch.

I trembled and shuddered; my whole body shook with fear.

There they were seized with fear and anguish, like a woman about to bear a child,

I was the only one who saw the vision. Those who were with me did not see anything, but they were terrified and ran and hid.

As Saul was coming near the city of Damascus, suddenly a light from the sky flashed around him.

"Who are you, Lord?" he asked. "I am Jesus, whom you persecute," the voice said.

The men who were traveling with Saul had stopped, not saying a word; they heard the voice but could not see anyone.

The jailer called for a light, rushed in, and fell trembling at the feet of Paul and Silas.

When I saw him, I fell down at his feet like a dead man. He placed his right hand on me and said, "Don't be afraid! I am the first and the last.
