no wicked people have been happy for long.

but they will be blown away like dust. Those who used to know them will wonder where they have gone.

I once knew someone wicked who was a tyrant; he towered over everyone like a cedar of Lebanon;

but later I passed by, and he wasn't there; I looked for him, but couldn't find him.

by evil people who trust in their riches and boast of their great wealth.

because the payment for a human life is too great. What we could pay would never be enough

Anyone can see that even the wise die, as well as the foolish and stupid. They all leave their riches to their descendants.

Our greatness cannot keep us from death; we will still die like the animals.

until I went into your Temple. Then I understood what will happen to the wicked.

They are instantly destroyed; they go down to a horrible end.

But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night you will have to give up your life; then who will get all these things you have kept for yourself ? ' "

While I was watching, another beast appeared. It looked like a leopard, but on its back there were four wings, like the wings of a bird, and it had four heads. It had a look of authority about it.

The goat grew more and more arrogant, but at the height of his power his horn was broken. In its place four prominent horns came up, each pointing in a different direction.

The four horns that came up when the first horn was broken represent the four kingdoms into which that nation will be divided and which will not be as strong as the first kingdom.

no more than a shadow. All we do is for nothing; we gather wealth, but don't know who will get it.

Nothing that I had worked for and earned meant a thing to me, because I knew that I would have to leave it to my successor,

and he might be wise, or he might be foolish---who knows? Yet he will own everything I have worked for, everything my wisdom has earned for me in this world. It is all useless.

Here is someone who lives alone. He has no son, no brother, yet he is always working, never satisfied with the wealth he has. For whom is he working so hard and denying himself any pleasure? This is useless, too---and a miserable way to live.

Jesus knew what they were thinking, and so he said to them, "Any country that divides itself into groups which fight each other will not last very long. And any town or family that divides itself into groups which fight each other will fall apart.

While I was staring at the horns, I saw a little horn coming up among the others. It tore out three of the horns that were already there. This horn had human eyes and a mouth that was boasting proudly.

But after I have taken them away, I will have mercy on them; I will bring each nation back to its own land and to its own country.

But if any nation will not obey, then I will completely uproot it and destroy it. I, the LORD, have spoken."

If at any time I say that I am going to uproot, break down, or destroy any nation or kingdom,

The entire valley, where the dead are buried and garbage is dumped, and all the fields above Kidron Brook as far as the Horse Gate to the east, will be sacred to me. The city will never again be torn down or destroyed."

"But I, the LORD, am tearing down what I have built and pulling up what I have planted. I will do this to the entire earth.
