Moses left the king, went out of the city, and lifted up his hands in prayer to the LORD. The thunder, the hail, and the rain all stopped.

(Solomon had made a bronze platform and put it in the middle of the courtyard. It was eight feet square and five feet high. He mounted this platform, knelt down where everyone could see him, and raised his hands toward heaven.)

When the time came for the evening sacrifice, I got up from where I had been grieving, and still wearing my torn clothes, I knelt in prayer and stretched out my hands to the LORD my God.

Put your heart right, Job. Reach out to God.

I lift up my hands to you in prayer; like dry ground my soul is thirsty for you.

"When you lift your hands in prayer, I will not look at you. No matter how much you pray, I will not listen, for your hands are covered with blood.

To the LORD belong even the highest heavens; the earth is his also, and everything on it.

He rules over the whole earth, from the deepest caves to the highest hills.

He rules over the sea, which he made; the land also, which he himself formed.

He does whatever he wishes in heaven and on earth, in the seas and in the depths below.

For, as the scripture says, "The earth and everything in it belong to the Lord."

But if someone tells you, "This food was offered to idols," then do not eat that food, for the sake of the one who told you and for conscience' sake---
