Why is the LORD taking us into that land? We will be killed in battle, and our wives and children will be captured. Wouldn't it be better to go back to Egypt?"

So they said to one another, "Let's choose a leader and go back to Egypt!"

The LORD said to Moses, "How much longer will these people reject me? How much longer will they refuse to trust in me, even though I have performed so many miracles among them?

But Moses said, "Then why are you disobeying the LORD now? You will not succeed!

You certainly have not brought us into a fertile land or given us fields and vineyards as our possession, and now you are trying to deceive us. We will not come!"

Then they rejected the pleasant land, because they did not believe God's promise.

They stayed in their tents and grumbled and would not listen to the LORD.

I have been calling you, inviting you to come, but you would not listen. You paid no attention to me.

Be careful, then, and do not refuse to hear him who speaks. Those who refused to hear the one who gave the divine message on earth did not escape. How much less shall we escape, then, if we turn away from the one who speaks from heaven!

They forgot what he had done, the miracles they had seen him perform.

They forgot his great power and the day when he saved them from their enemies

and performed his mighty acts and miracles in the plain of Zoan in the land of Egypt.

You are good to us and forgiving, full of constant love for all who pray to you.

But you, O Lord, are a merciful and loving God, always patient, always kind and faithful.

Our ancestors in Egypt did not understand God's wonderful acts; they forgot the many times he showed them his love, and they rebelled against the Almighty at the Red Sea.

But they quickly forgot what he had done and acted without waiting for his advice.

Don't you understand yet? Don't you remember when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand men? How many baskets did you fill?

How is it that you don't understand that I was not talking to you about bread? Guard yourselves from the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!"

And so I will always remind you of these matters, even though you already know them and are firmly grounded in the truth you have received.

I know that I shall soon put off this mortal body, as our Lord Jesus Christ plainly told me.

So they said to one another, "Let's choose a leader and go back to Egypt!"

"But our ancestors refused to obey him; they pushed him aside and wished that they could go back to Egypt.

'I, the LORD, am not easily angered, and I show great love and faithfulness and forgive sin and rebellion. Yet I will not fail to punish children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation for the sins of their parents.'

And now, LORD, according to the greatness of your unchanging love, forgive, I pray, the sin of these people, just as you have forgiven them ever since they left Egypt."

You are good to us and forgiving, full of constant love for all who pray to you.

But you, O Lord, are a merciful and loving God, always patient, always kind and faithful.

But you forgive us, so that we should stand in awe of you.

There is no other god like you, O LORD; you forgive the sins of your people who have survived. You do not stay angry forever, but you take pleasure in showing us your constant love.

You will be merciful to us once again. You will trample our sins underfoot and send them to the bottom of the sea!

The LORD then passed in front of him and called out, "I, the LORD, am a God who is full of compassion and pity, who is not easily angered and who shows great love and faithfulness.

I keep my promise for thousands of generations and forgive evil and sin; but I will not fail to punish children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation for the sins of their parents."

But God was merciful to his people. He forgave their sin and did not destroy them. Many times he held back his anger and restrained his fury.

The LORD is merciful and loving, slow to become angry and full of constant love.

He does not punish us as we deserve or repay us according to our sins and wrongs.

As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our sins from us.

He knows what we are made of; he remembers that we are dust.

then the wind blows on it, and it is gone--- no one sees it again.

of those who are true to his covenant and who faithfully obey his commands.

The LORD is loving and merciful, slow to become angry and full of constant love.

He is good to everyone and has compassion on all he made.

Let the wicked leave their way of life and change their way of thinking. Let them turn to the LORD, our God; he is merciful and quick to forgive.

As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways and thoughts above yours.

Let your broken heart show your sorrow; tearing your clothes is not enough." Come back to the LORD your God. He is kind and full of mercy; he is patient and keeps his promise; he is always ready to forgive and not punish.

For he said to Moses, "I will have mercy on anyone I wish; I will take pity on anyone I wish."

Let us praise God for his glorious grace, for the free gift he gave us in his dear Son!

For by the blood of Christ we are set free, that is, our sins are forgiven. How great is the grace of God,

I will live among my people Israel in this Temple that you are building, and I will never abandon them."

May the LORD our God be with us as he was with our ancestors; may he never leave us or abandon us;

Many times the LORD rescued his people, but they chose to rebel against him and sank deeper into sin.

For their sake he remembered his covenant, and because of his great love he relented.
