The next day the whole community complained against Moses and Aaron and said, "You have killed some of the LORD's people."

Then watch it go; if it goes toward the town of Beth Shemesh, this means that it is the God of the Israelites who has sent this terrible disaster on us. But if it doesn't, then we will know that he did not send the plague; it was only a matter of chance."

Your enemies do not know that you will punish them. LORD, put them to shame and let them suffer; let them suffer the punishment you have prepared. Show them how much you love your people.

Surely the LORD looks for faithfulness. He struck you, but you paid no attention; he crushed you, but you refused to learn. You were stubborn and would not turn from your sins.

"Jesus of Nazareth," they answered. "I am he," he said. Judas, the traitor, was standing there with them.

Again Jesus asked them, "Who is it you are looking for?" "Jesus of Nazareth," they said.

(He said this so that what he had said might come true: "Father, I have not lost even one of those you gave me.")

Jesus said to Peter, "Put your sword back in its place! Do you think that I will not drink the cup of suffering which my Father has given me?"

"What shall we do with these men?" they asked. "Everyone in Jerusalem knows that this extraordinary miracle has been performed by them, and we cannot deny it.

But to keep this matter from spreading any further among the people, let us warn these men never again to speak to anyone in the name of Jesus."

Then he said to the guards standing near him, "Kill the LORD's priests! They conspired with David and did not tell me that he had run away, even though they knew it all along." But the guards refused to lift a hand to kill the LORD's priests.

Saul also had all the other inhabitants of Nob, the city of priests, put to death: men and women, children and babies, cattle, donkeys, and sheep---they were all killed.

The men who were guarding Jesus made fun of him and beat him.
