In the day of my distress I sought the Lord; my hand was stretched out in the night without ceasing; my soul refused to be comforted.

You have held my eyelids open; I am so disturbed that I cannot speak.

I call to remembrance my song in the night; I meditate within my heart, and my spirit makes diligent search.

Has His mercy come to an end forever? Has His Word failed from generation to generation?

And I said, This is my weakness; the years of the right hand of the Most High.

I will also meditate on all Your works, and talk of Your deeds.

O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? Will the enemy blaspheme Your name forever?

As with a shattering of my bones, my enemies have reproached me, while they say daily to me, Where is your God?

You make us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the peoples.

because of the voice of him who reproaches and reviles; before the enemy and avenger.

Have mercy upon us, O Jehovah, have mercy upon us! For we are more than enough held in contempt.

Our soul has more than enough of the derision of those who are at ease, with the contempt of the proud who oppress us.

For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has crushed my life to the ground; he has made me dwell in darkness, like those long dead.

Therefore my spirit is faint within me; my heart within me is desolate.

Her oppressors have become the chief; her enemies are at ease; for Jehovah has afflicted her for the multitude of her sins. Her children have gone into captivity before the enemy.

When I was with you daily in the temple, you did not stretch forth your hands against Me. But this is your hour, and the authority of darkness.
