"If you happen to see your enemy's cow or donkey running loose, take it back to him.

You have not taken care of the weak ones, healed the ones that are sick, bandaged the ones that are hurt, brought back the ones that wandered off, or looked for the ones that were lost. Instead, you treated them cruelly.

"I will look for those that are lost, bring back those that wander off, bandage those that are hurt, and heal those that are sick; but those that are fat and strong I will destroy, because I am a shepherd who does what is right.

Instead, you are to go to the lost sheep of the people of Israel.

Then Jesus replied, "I have been sent only to the lost sheep of the people of Israel."

"What do you think a man does who has one hundred sheep and one of them gets lost? He will leave the other ninety-nine grazing on the hillside and go and look for the lost sheep.

When he finds it, I tell you, he feels far happier over this one sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not get lost.

"Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them---what do you do? You leave the other ninety-nine sheep in the pasture and go looking for the one that got lost until you find it.

and carry it back home. Then you call your friends and neighbors together and say to them, 'I am so happy I found my lost sheep. Let us celebrate!'

My friends, if any of you wander away from the truth and another one brings you back again,

remember this: whoever turns a sinner back from the wrong way will save that sinner's soul from death and bring about the forgiveness of many sins.

You were like sheep that had lost their way, but now you have been brought back to follow the Shepherd and Keeper of your souls.

Do the same thing if you find a donkey, a piece of clothing, or anything else that an Israelite may have lost.

"If an Israelite's donkey or cow has fallen down, don't ignore it; help him get the animal to its feet again.

But if the community ignores what you have done and does not put you to death,

Don't hesitate to rescue someone who is about to be executed unjustly.

Give to the poor and you will never be in need. If you close your eyes to the poor, many people will curse you.

The LORD has hidden himself from his people, but I trust him and place my hope in him.

Share your food with the hungry and open your homes to the homeless poor. Give clothes to those who have nothing to wear, and do not refuse to help your own relatives.

It so happened that a priest was going down that road; but when he saw the man, he walked on by on the other side.

In the same way a Levite also came there, went over and looked at the man, and then walked on by on the other side.
