and took him first to Annas. He was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was High Priest that year.

It was Caiaphas who had advised the Jewish authorities that it was better that one man should die for all the people.

and Annas and Caiaphas were High Priests. At that time the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the desert.

They met with the High Priest Annas and with Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and the others who belonged to the High Priest's family.

"Have you ever known one of the authorities or one Pharisee to believe in him?

This crowd does not know the Law of Moses, so they are under God's curse!"

The most stupid fool is better off than those who think they are wise when they are not.

You are doomed! You call evil good and call good evil. You turn darkness into light and light into darkness. You make what is bitter sweet, and what is sweet you make bitter.

You are doomed! Heroes of the wine bottle! Brave and fearless when it comes to mixing drinks!

So then, where does that leave the wise? or the scholars? or the skillful debaters of this world? God has shown that this world's wisdom is foolishness!

Yet I do proclaim a message of wisdom to those who are spiritually mature. But it is not the wisdom that belongs to this world or to the powers that rule this world---powers that are losing their power.

You should not fool yourself. If any of you think that you are wise by this world's standards, you should become a fool, in order to be really wise.

For what this world considers to be wisdom is nonsense in God's sight. As the scripture says, "God traps the wise in their cleverness";
