Jesus answered them, "Go and tell that fox: 'I am driving out demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I shall finish my work.'

I am like the deaf and cannot hear, like the dumb and cannot speak.

I am like those who do not answer, because they cannot hear.

I said, "I will be careful about what I do and will not let my tongue make me sin; I will not say anything while evil people are near."

I kept quiet, not saying a word, not even about anything good! But my suffering only grew worse,

I will keep quiet, I will not say a word, for you are the one who made me suffer like this.

"He was treated harshly, but endured it humbly; he never said a word. Like a lamb about to be slaughtered, like a sheep about to be sheared, he never said a word.

"Do not give what is holy to dogs---they will only turn and attack you. Do not throw your pearls in front of pigs---they will only trample them underfoot.

But Jesus refused to answer a single word, with the result that the Governor was greatly surprised.

The passage of scripture which he was reading was this: "He was like a sheep that is taken to be slaughtered, like a lamb that makes no sound when its wool is cut off. He did not say a word.

When he was insulted, he did not answer back with an insult; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but placed his hopes in God, the righteous Judge.
