Peter answered, "I will never leave you, even though all the rest do!"

Peter answered even more strongly, "I will never say that, even if I have to die with you!" And all the other disciples said the same thing.

others crossed the Jordan River into the territories of Gad and Gilead. Saul was still at Gilgal, and the people with him were trembling with fear.

Peter followed from a distance, as far as the courtyard of the High Priest's house. He went into the courtyard and sat down with the guards to see how it would all come out.

Simon Peter and another disciple followed Jesus. That other disciple was well known to the High Priest, so he went with Jesus into the courtyard of the High Priest's house,

while Peter stayed outside by the gate. Then the other disciple went back out, spoke to the girl at the gate, and brought Peter inside.

There he went into a cave to spend the night. Suddenly the LORD spoke to him, "Elijah, what are you doing here?"

When Elijah heard it, he covered his face with his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. A voice said to him, "Elijah, what are you doing here?"

A fire had been lit in the center of the courtyard, and Peter joined those who were sitting around it.

When one of the servant women saw him sitting there at the fire, she looked straight at him and said, "This man too was with Jesus!"

It was cold, so the servants and guards had built a charcoal fire and were standing around it, warming themselves. So Peter went over and stood with them, warming himself.

Peter was still standing there keeping himself warm. So the others said to him, "Aren't you also one of the disciples of that man?" But Peter denied it. "No, I am not," he said.

In great anguish he prayed even more fervently; his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
