Matthew 2:13-16

After they had left, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph and said, "Herod will be looking for the child in order to kill him. So get up, take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you to leave."

Joseph got up, took the child and his mother, and left during the night for Egypt,

where he stayed until Herod died. This was done to make come true what the Lord had said through the prophet, "I called my Son out of Egypt."

When Herod realized that the visitors from the East had tricked him, he was furious. He gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its neighborhood who were two years old and younger---this was done in accordance with what he had learned from the visitors about the time when the star had appeared.
Matthew 26:3
Then the chief priests and the elders met together in the palace of Caiaphas, the High Priest,

Actually, he did not say this of his own accord; rather, as he was High Priest that year, he was prophesying that Jesus was going to die for the Jewish people,

and not only for them, but also to bring together into one body all the scattered people of God.

From that day on the Jewish authorities made plans to kill Jesus.

So the officer went off with his men and brought the apostles back. They did not use force, however, because they were afraid that the people might stone them.

They brought the apostles in, made them stand before the Council, and the High Priest questioned them.

"We gave you strict orders not to teach in the name of this man," he said; "but see what you have done! You have spread your teaching all over Jerusalem, and you want to make us responsible for his death!"
