because you still live as the people of this world live. When there is jealousy among you and you quarrel with one another, doesn't this prove that you belong to this world, living by its standards?

No one, then, should boast about what human beings can do. Actually everything belongs to you:

Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud;

Don't do anything from selfish ambition or from a cheap desire to boast, but be humble toward one another, always considering others better than yourselves.

But if in your heart you are jealous, bitter, and selfish, don't sin against the truth by boasting of your wisdom.

Such wisdom does not come down from heaven; it belongs to the world, it is unspiritual and demonic.

Don't think that there is no truth in the scripture that says, "The spirit that God placed in us is filled with fierce desires."

Do not complain against one another, my friends, so that God will not judge you. The Judge is near, ready to appear.

Rid yourselves, then, of all evil; no more lying or hypocrisy or jealousy or insulting language.

"Whether a short time or a long time," Paul answered, "my prayer to God is that you and all the rest of you who are listening to me today might become what I am---except, of course, for these chains!"

I would like for all of you to speak in strange tongues; but I would rather that you had the gift of proclaiming God's message. For the person who proclaims God's message is of greater value than the one who speaks in strange tongues---unless there is someone present who can explain what is said, so that the whole church may be helped.

Of course some of them preach Christ because they are jealous and quarrelsome, but others from genuine good will.

The others do not proclaim Christ sincerely, but from a spirit of selfish ambition; they think that they will make more trouble for me while I am in prison.
