Isaiah 13:1
This is a message about Babylon, which Isaiah son of Amoz received from God.
Jeremiah 23:33-38

The LORD said to me, "Jeremiah, when one of my people or a prophet or a priest asks you, 'What is the LORD's message?' you are to say, 'You are a burden to the LORD, and he is going to get rid of you.'

If any of my people or a prophet or a priest even uses the words 'the LORD's burden,' I will punish them and their families.
35
Instead, each one of them should ask their friends and their relatives, 'What answer has the LORD given? What has the LORD said?'
36
So they must no longer use the words 'the LORD's burden,' because if any of them do, I will make my message a real burden to them. The people have perverted the words of their God, the living God, the LORD Almighty.

Jeremiah, ask the prophets, 'What answer did the LORD give you? What did the LORD say?'

And if they disobey my command and use the words 'the LORD's burden,' then tell them that

Damascus
Genesis 14:15
There he divided his men into groups, attacked the enemy by night, and defeated them. He chased them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus,
Isaiah 17:1-3

The LORD said, "Damascus will not be a city any longer; it will be only a pile of ruins.

The cities of Syria will be deserted forever. They will be a pasture for sheep and cattle, and no one will drive them away.

Israel will be defenseless, and Damascus will lose its independence. Those Syrians who survive will be in disgrace like the people of Israel. I, the LORD Almighty, have spoken."

This is what the LORD said about Damascus: "The people in the cities of Hamath and Arpad are worried and troubled because they have heard bad news. Anxiety rolls over them like a sea, and they cannot rest.

The people of Damascus are weak and have fled in terror. They are in pain and misery like a woman in labor.

The famous city that used to be happy is completely deserted.

On that day her young men will be killed in the city streets, and all her soldiers destroyed.

I will set the walls of Damascus on fire and will burn down King Benhadad's palaces. I, the LORD Almighty, have spoken."
Amos 1:3-5

The LORD says, "The people of Damascus have sinned again and again, and for this I will certainly punish them. They treated the people of Gilead with savage cruelty.

So I will send fire upon the palace built by King Hazael and I will burn down the fortresses of King Benhadad.

I will smash the city gates of Damascus and remove the inhabitants of Aven Valley and the ruler of Betheden. The people of Syria will be taken away as prisoners to the land of Kir."
Amos 3:12
The LORD says, "As a shepherd recovers only two legs or an ear of a sheep that a lion has eaten, so only a few will survive of Samaria's people, who now recline on luxurious couches.

All the people of Israel, everyone who lives in the city of Samaria, will know that he has done this. Now they are proud and arrogant. They say,

The old and honorable men are the head---and the tail is the prophets whose teachings are lies!

Those who lead these people have misled them and totally confused them.

And so the Lord will not let any of the young men escape, and he will not show pity on any of the widows and orphans, because all the people are godless and wicked and everything they say is evil. Yet even so the LORD's anger will not be ended, but his hand will still be stretched out to punish.

The wickedness of the people burns like a fire that destroys thorn bushes and thistles. It burns like a forest fire that sends up columns of smoke.

Because the LORD Almighty is angry, his punishment burns like a fire throughout the land and destroys the people, and it is each of us for ourselves.

Everywhere in the country people snatch and eat any bit of food they can find, but their hunger is never satisfied. They even eat their own children!

The people of Manasseh and the people of Ephraim attack each other, and together they attack Judah. Yet even so the LORD's anger is not ended; his hand is still stretched out to punish.
