"So tell my servant David that I, the LORD Almighty, say to him, 'I took you from looking after sheep in the fields and made you the ruler of my people Israel.

He chose his servant David; he took him from the pastures,

David took care of them with unselfish devotion and led them with skill.

As Jesus walked along the shore of Lake Galilee, he saw two brothers who were fishermen, Simon (called Peter) and his brother Andrew, catching fish in the lake with a net.

Jesus said to them, "Come with me, and I will teach you to catch people."

Jesus left that place, and as he walked along, he saw a tax collector, named Matthew, sitting in his office. He said to him, "Follow me." Matthew got up and followed him.

But the LORD said to me, "Do not say that you are too young, but go to the people I send you to, and tell them everything I command you to say.

"Mortal man, I am sending you to the people of Israel. They have rebelled and turned against me and are still rebels, just as their ancestors were.

They are stubborn and do not respect me, so I am sending you to tell them what I, the Sovereign LORD, am saying to them.

and said to them, "This is what is written: the Messiah must suffer and must rise from death three days later,

You are witnesses of these things.

But when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will be filled with power, and you will be witnesses for me in Jerusalem, in all of Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

For we cannot stop speaking of what we ourselves have seen and heard."

"Go and stand in the Temple, and tell the people all about this new life."

Peter and the other apostles answered, "We must obey God, not men.

God raised him to his right side as Leader and Savior, to give the people of Israel the opportunity to repent and have their sins forgiven.
