The LORD God said to me, "Jeremiah, tell the people of Israel that every wine jar should be filled with wine. They will answer that they know every wine jar should be filled with wine.

Then I will smash them like jars against one another, old and young alike. No pity, compassion, or mercy will stop me from killing them."

Let sinners bear their own punishment; let them feel the wrath of Almighty God.

He sends down flaming coals and burning sulfur on the wicked; he punishes them with scorching winds.

The LORD holds a cup in his hand, filled with the strong wine of his anger. He pours it out, and all the wicked drink it; they drink it down to the last drop.

Jerusalem, wake up! Rouse yourself and get up! You have drunk the cup of punishment that the LORD in his anger gave you to drink; you drank it down, and it made you stagger.

the LORD your God defends you and says, "I am taking away the cup that I gave you in my anger. You will no longer have to drink the wine that makes you stagger.

will themselves drink God's wine, the wine of his fury, which he has poured at full strength into the cup of his anger! All who do this will be tormented in fire and sulfur before the holy angels and the Lamb.

So the angel swung his sickle on the earth, cut the grapes from the vine, and threw them into the wine press of God's furious anger.
