Elijah was afraid and fled for his life; he took his servant and went to Beersheba in Judah. Leaving the servant there,

Elijah walked a whole day into the wilderness. He stopped and sat down in the shade of a tree and wished he would die. "It's too much, LORD," he prayed. "Take away my life; I might as well be dead!"

From the very beginning the Word was with God.

Through him God made all things; not one thing in all creation was made without him.

(Actually, Jesus himself did not baptize anyone; only his disciples did.)

So when Jesus heard what was being said, he left Judea and went back to Galilee;

Jesus said to him, "Anyone who starts to plow and then keeps looking back is of no use for the Kingdom of God."

Barnabas wanted to take John Mark with them,

but Paul did not think it was right to take him, because he had not stayed with them to the end of their mission, but had turned back and left them in Pamphylia.

Your anger against them burns in me too, LORD, and I can't hold it in any longer." Then the LORD said to me, "Pour out my anger on the children in the streets and on the gatherings of the young people. Husbands and wives will be taken away, and even the very old will not be spared.

I can hardly wait to speak. I can't hold back the words.

I can't stand it; I have to speak.

and I was overcome with anxiety. The more I thought, the more troubled I became; I could not keep from asking:

The power of the LORD came on me with great force, and as his spirit carried me off, I felt bitter and angry.

For we cannot stop speaking of what we ourselves have seen and heard."

While Paul was waiting in Athens for Silas and Timothy, he was greatly upset when he noticed how full of idols the city was.

When Silas and Timothy arrived from Macedonia, Paul gave his whole time to preaching the message, testifying to the Jews that Jesus is the Messiah.

I have no right to boast just because I preach the gospel. After all, I am under orders to do so. And how terrible it would be for me if I did not preach the gospel!

If I did my work as a matter of free choice, then I could expect to be paid; but I do it as a matter of duty, because God has entrusted me with this task.

Are we really insane? It is for God's sake. Or are we sane? Then it is for your sake.

He died for all, so that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but only for him who died and was raised to life for their sake.
