In times of trouble he will shelter me; he will keep me safe in his Temple and make me secure on a high rock.

You hide them in the safety of your presence from the plots of others; in a safe shelter you hide them from the insults of their enemies.

I go to you for protection, LORD; rescue me from my enemies.

Each of them will be like a shelter from the wind and a place to hide from storms. They will be like streams flowing in a desert, like the shadow of a giant rock in a barren land.

They gather in hiding places and watch everything I do, hoping to kill me.

Wicked people and liars have attacked me. They tell lies about me,

This seemed like good advice to Absalom and all the Israelite leaders.

I was like a trusting lamb taken out to be killed, and I did not know that it was against me that they were planning evil things. They were saying, "Let's chop down the tree while it is still healthy; let's kill him so that no one will remember him any more."

But, LORD, you know all their plots to kill me. Do not forgive their evil or pardon their sin. Throw them down in defeat and deal with them while you are angry."

Then the chief priests and the elders met together in the palace of Caiaphas, the High Priest,

and made plans to arrest Jesus secretly and put him to death.

Then they went to the chief priests and elders and said, "We have taken a solemn vow together not to eat a thing until we have killed Paul.

Now then, you and the Council send word to the Roman commander to bring Paul down to you, pretending that you want to get more accurate information about him. But we will be ready to kill him before he ever gets here."

to do them the favor of having Paul come to Jerusalem, for they had made a plot to kill him on the way.

Their kings revolt, their rulers plot together against the LORD and against the king he chose.

I have so many enemies, LORD, so many who turn against me!

The whole crowd cried out, "Kill him! Set Barabbas free for us!"

Pilate wanted to set Jesus free, so he appealed to the crowd again.

Pilate said to them the third time, "But what crime has he committed? I cannot find anything he has done to deserve death! I will have him whipped and set him free."
