Meanwhile Mordecai had been appointed by the king to an administrative position.

During the time that Mordecai held office in the palace, Bigthana and Teresh, two of the palace eunuchs who guarded the entrance to the king's rooms, became hostile to King Xerxes and plotted to assassinate him.

He gave him the second royal chariot to ride in, and his guard of honor went ahead of him and cried out, "Make way! Make way!" And so Joseph was appointed governor over all Egypt.

And so, in honor of the name of Jesus all beings in heaven, on earth, and in the world below will fall on their knees,

Some time later King Xerxes promoted a man named Haman to the position of prime minister. Haman was the son of Hammedatha, a descendant of Agag.

Haman was furious when he realized that Mordecai was not going to kneel and bow to him,

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write an account of this victory, so that it will be remembered. Tell Joshua that I will completely destroy the Amalekites."

He said, "Hold high the banner of the LORD! The LORD will continue to fight against the Amalekites forever!"

So then, when the LORD your God has given you the land and made you safe from all your enemies who live around you, be sure to kill all the Amalekites, so that no one will remember them any longer. Do not forget!

Go and attack the Amalekites and completely destroy everything they have. Don't leave a thing; kill all the men, women, children, and babies; the cattle, sheep, camels, and donkeys."

They despise those whom God rejects, but honor those who obey the LORD. They always do what they promise, no matter how much it may cost.
