And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

In the days of her affliction and her wandering, Jerusalem remembered all her desirable things from ancient days, when her people fell into the hand of the enemy with no one to help her. The enemies saw her; they laughed at her annihilation.

And you, his son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this.

But you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of Heaven. And they have brought the vessels of His house before you. And you, and your nobles, your wives, and your concubines have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver, and gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, and do not know. And you have not glorified the God in whose hand your life, breath, and all your ways is.

That very night Belshazzar, the king of the Chaldeans, was killed.

where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.

But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.

They spend their days in prosperity, and in a moment go down to Sheol.

Yet they say to the Mighty God, Depart from us, for we do not desire the knowledge of Your ways.

Yet He filled their houses with good things. But the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

from men by Your hand, O Jehovah, from men of the world whose portion is in this life, and whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure. They are satisfied with children, and leave an abundance to their infants.

I have seen the wicked, ruthless, and spreading himself like a luxuriant native tree.

Yet he passed away, and lo, he was no more; indeed, I sought for him, but he could not be found.

Their inner thought is that their houses will last forever, and their dwelling places from generation to generation; they call their lands after their own names.

Their eyes bulge with fatness; they have more than the heart could imagine.

Behold, these are the wicked, who are continually at ease; they increase in riches.

For all day long I have been plagued, and chastened every morning.

When I thought deeply in order to understand this, it was troublesome to me,

Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down to desolation.

Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the Law of God, nor indeed can be.

whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and who glory in their shame; who set their mind on earthly things.

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate,

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have affliction; but be of good courage, I have overcome the world.

strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must enter the kingdom of God through many afflictions.

that no one should be disturbed by these afflictions; for you yourselves know that we are appointed to this.

choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the temporary pleasures of sin,

And I said to him, Sir, you know. So he said to me, These are the ones coming out of great affliction, and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
