The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, Behold, a glutton and a wino, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.

Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. And He went to the Pharisee's house, and sat down to eat.

And as He spoke, a certain Pharisee asked Him to dine with him. So He went in and sat down to eat.

For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might gain the more;

to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under the Law toward Christ), that I might gain those who are without law;

There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

Then one in the council stood up, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the Law highly esteemed by all the people, and commanded them to put the apostles outside for a little while.

So the scribes and Pharisees watched Him closely, whether He would heal on the Sabbath, that they might find an accusation against Him.

And as He said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to quarrel with Him forcefully, and to cross-examine Him about many things,

lying in wait for Him, and seeking to catch Him in something He might say, in order to accuse Him.

So they watched Him, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, that they might seize on one of His words, in order to deliver Him to the power and the authority of the governor.

The wicked watches the righteous, and seeks to kill him.

And when he comes to see me, he speaks vanity; his heart gathers iniquity to itself; he goes out and speaks of it.

Surely they have plotted to cast him down from his high position; they delight in lies; they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.

They encourage themselves in an evil plan; they talk of laying snares secretly; they say, Who shall see them?

They devise injustice; they have finished searching out a plot. Yea, the inward part of man and the heart are unfathomable.

for as he thinks in his heart, so is he. Eat and drink! he says to you, but his heart is not with you.

For the terrible one is brought to nothing, and the scorner is destroyed, and all who look after iniquity are cut off;

those who induce a man to sin by a word, and lay a snare for the judge in the gate, and turn aside the just for vanity.

For I have heard the whisperings of many, terror is all around. Proclaim, they say, and we will report it. Everyone at peace with me is watching for me to stumble and fall, saying, Perhaps he will be lured away, and we shall prevail against him, and shall take our revenge on him.

But Jehovah is with me like a mighty, awesome one. Therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail. They shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not succeed. Their everlasting reproach shall never be forgotten.

So they watched Him closely, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him.
