And Abram said, Lord Jehovah, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the son of the inheritance of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

And Abram said, Behold, You have given me no seed; and lo, a son of my house inherits from me.

Now Sarai, Abram's wife, had borne him no children. And she had an Egyptian maidservant whose name was Hagar.

And Sarai said to Abram, See now, Jehovah has restrained me from bearing. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall build up a family by her. And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai.

And Isaac entreated Jehovah for his wife, because she was barren; and Jehovah was entreated by him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

Now when Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel was jealous of her sister, and said to Jacob, Give me sons, or if not I shall die!

Now there was a certain man from Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren and had borne no children.

And the Angel of Jehovah appeared to the woman and said to her, Behold now, you are barren and have borne no children, but you shall conceive and bear a son.

And he had two wives: the name of one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

But to Hannah he would give a double portion, for he loved Hannah, although Jehovah had closed up her womb.

And so it was, year by year, when she went up to the house of Jehovah, that she provoked her; therefore she wept and did not eat.

Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall one be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, give birth?

Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age; and it had ceased to be after the manner of women with Sarah.

Now King David was old, advanced in years; and they covered him with clothes, for he could not get warm.

So he said, What then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered, Truly, she has no son, and her husband is old.

And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb;

By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.
