i1 [Maschil of David. A Prayer when he was in the cave.] i0 par I cry out unto Jehovah with my voice; with my voice unto Jehovah I make my supplication.

David therefore departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. And when his brothers and all his father's house heard it, they went down there to him.

And he came to the sheepfolds by the way, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to relieve himself. And David and his men were staying in the recesses of the cave.

David also rose up afterward, went out of the cave, and called out after Saul, saying, My lord the king! And when Saul looked behind him, David bowed with his face to the earth, and prostrated himself.

i1 [To the chief Musician. Jonathelemrechokim. Michtam of David, when the Philistines took him in Gath.] i0 par Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up. Fighting daily, he oppresses me.

But as for me, my prayer is to You, O Jehovah, in a favorable time; O God, in the multitude of Your mercies hear me, in the truth of Your salvation.

Do not let the flood of waters overflow me, nor let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut its mouth upon me.

I beseech You, let Your merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to Your Word to Your servant.

Let Your tender mercies come to me, that I may live; for Your Law is my delight.

And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; for You, Jehovah, have not forsaken those who seek You.

But I have trusted in Your mercy; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.

i1 [A Song of Ascents.] i0 par Those who trust in Jehovah are like Mount Zion, which is not shaken, but remains forever.

Who among you fears Jehovah? Who obeys the voice of His Servant? Who walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of Jehovah and rest on his God.

Set apart Your wonderful lovingkindness, O You who by Your right hand saves those who trust in You, from those who rise up against me.

Keep me as the pupil of the eye; hide me under the shadow of Your wings,

How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! And the sons of men take refuge under the shadow of Your wings.

I will dwell in Your tent forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah.

Because You have been my help, therefore in the shadow of Your wings will I rejoice.

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.

Because you have made Jehovah, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place,

May Jehovah reward your work, and full wages be given you by Jehovah the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge.

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her, how often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing!

But yet a little while, and the indignation shall cease, and My anger shall be for their destruction.

Come, my people, enter into your rooms and shut your doors behind you; hide (as it were) for a few moments, until the indignation has passed.

And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be kept safe alive; but for the elect's sake those days will be shortened.

Truly, truly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will become joy.

My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering affliction and endurance.

Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the endurance of Job and seen the outcome brought about by the Lord; that the Lord is very kind and merciful.

And I said to him, Sir, you know. So he said to me, These are the ones coming out of great affliction, and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.
