if I have said to corruption, You are my father, and to the worm, You are my mother and my sister;

and after my skin has been struck off from my flesh, I shall see God:

The memory of the just is blessed, but the name of the wicked shall rot.

And so I saw the wicked buried, they who had come and gone from the consecrated place. And they were forgotten in the city where they had done so. This also is vanity.

Those who are dead do not live; spirits of the dead do not rise. Therefore You have punished and destroyed them, and made all memory of them to perish.

For there is hope for a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and its tender shoots will not cease.

yet at the scent of water it will bud and bring forth branches like a plant.

His roots are dried up below, and his branch above is cut off.

The memory of him perishes from the earth, and he has no name on the face of the street.

He cried with might and said this: Cut down the tree and cut off its branches. Shake off its leaves and scatter its fruit. Let the beasts flee from under it, and the birds from its branches.

And now already the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore any tree which does not bear good fruit is cut off and thrown into the fire.
