And behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said to the king, Why have our brethren, the men of Judah, stolen you away and brought the king, his household, and all David's men with him across the Jordan?

And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king; therefore we also have more in David than you. Why then have you despised us; were we not the first to speak of bringing back our king? Yet the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but Jehovah delivers him out of them all.

But the sons of worthlessness shall all be as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with the hand.

Corrupt men have gone out from among you and impelled the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which you have not known;

Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, certain men of the city, sons of wickedness surrounded the house and beat on the door. They spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring out the man who has come to your house, that we may know him.

Now the sons of Eli were sons of wickedness; they did not know Jehovah.

Then all the wicked and worthless men of those who went with David answered and said, Because they did not go with us, we will not give them any of the spoils that we have recovered, except for every man's wife and children, that they may lead them away and depart.

Arise, O Jehovah, forestall him; bow him down; deliver my soul from the wicked with Your sword,

As coals to burning coals, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to kindle strife.

Are You not from ancient times, Jehovah my God, my Holy One? We shall not die, Jehovah, for You have appointed them for judgment. And, my Rock, You have established them for correction.

You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, and You are not able to look upon vexation. Why do you look on those who deal deceitfully? Will You be silent when the wicked swallows one more righteous than he?

But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as you hear the sound of the shofar, then you shall say, Absalom is king in Hebron!

And it happened, when he arrived, that he blew the shofar in the mountains of Ephraim, and the sons of Israel came down with him from the mountains, with him before them.

My son, fear Jehovah and the king; and do not fellowship with those who are given to change;

for their disaster shall rise suddenly, and who knows the ruin of them both?

Do not be quick to start a quarrel, lest you know not what to do in the end of it, when your neighbor has put you to shame.

And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king; therefore we also have more in David than you. And when all Israel saw that the king had not heeded them, the people answered the king, saying: What portion do we have in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, O Israel! Now, see to your own house, O David! And Israel departed to their tents.

And King Rehoboam consulted the elders who stood before his father Solomon while he still lived, saying, How do you advise me to answer these people?

But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying, We do not desire to have this man reign over us.

But bring here those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, and slay them before me.
