These are the words which Moses spoke to all Israel on this side of the Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain opposite Suph, between Paran, Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth, and Dizahab.

And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first of the month, that Moses spoke to the children of Israel according to all that Jehovah had given him commandment concerning them,

after he had struck Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and Og king of Bashan, who dwelt at Ashtaroth in Edrei.
5
On this side of the Jordan in the land of Moab, Moses began to explain this Law, saying,

Jehovah our God spoke to us in Horeb, saying: You have dwelt long enough at this mountain.
7
Turn and set out, and go to the mountains of the Amorites, to all the neighboring places in the plain, in the mountains and in the lowland, in the South and on the seacoast, to the land of the Canaanites and to Lebanon, as far as the great river, the River Euphrates.
8
Behold, I have set the land before you; go in and possess the land which Jehovah has sworn to your fathers; to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; to give to them and their seed after them.
9
And I spoke to you at that time, saying: I alone am not able to bear you.
10
Jehovah your God has multiplied you, and here you are today, as the stars of the heavens in multitude.
11
May Jehovah the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times more than you are, and bless you as He has promised you!
12
How can I alone bear your burdens and your loads and your disputes?
13
Choose wise, understanding, and knowledgeable men from among your tribes, and I will make them heads over you.
14
And you answered me and said, The thing which you have spoken to us is good to do.
15
So I took the heads of your tribes, wise and knowledgeable men, and made them heads over you, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, rulers of tens, and officials for your tribes.
16
And I commanded your judges at that time, saying, Hear the cases between your brethren, and judge righteously between a man and his brother or the sojourner.
17
You shall not show partiality in judgment; you shall hear the small as well as the great; you shall not be afraid of any man's presence, for the judgment is God's. And any matter that is too hard for you, bring to me, and I will hear it.
18
And I commanded you at that time all the things which you should do.
19
So we set out from Horeb, and went through all that great and dreadful wilderness which you have seen on the way to the mountains of the Amorites, as Jehovah our God had commanded us; and we came to Kadesh Barnea.
20
And I said to you, You have come to the mountains of the Amorites, which Jehovah our God is giving to us.
21
Behold, Jehovah your God has set the land before you; go up and possess it, as Jehovah the God of your fathers has spoken to you; do not fear or be dismayed.
22
And all of you came near to me and said, Let us send men before us, and let them search out the land for us, and bring back word to us of the way by which we should go up, and of the cities into which we shall come.
23
And the thing was good in my eyes; so I took twelve of your men, one man from each tribe.
24
And they turned and went up into the mountains, and came to the Valley of Eshcol, and explored it.
25
They also took some of the fruit of the land in their hands and brought it down to us; and they brought back word to us, saying, It is a good land which Jehovah our God is giving to us.
26
Nevertheless you would not go up, but rebelled against the mouth of Jehovah your God;
27
and you murmured in your tents, and said, Because Jehovah hates us, He has brought us out of the land of Egypt to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.
28
Where shall we go up? Our brethren have caused our hearts to melt, saying, The people are greater and taller than we; the cities are great and fortified up to the heavens; moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.
29
Then I said to you, Do not be terrified, nor afraid of them.
30
Jehovah your God, who goes before you, He will fight for you, according to all that He did for you in Egypt before your eyes,
31
and in the wilderness where you have seen how Jehovah your God has carried you, as a man carries his son, in all the way that you went until you came to this place.
32
Yet, for all that, you did not believe Jehovah your God,
33
who went in the way before you to search out a place for you to encamp, to show you the way you should go, in the fire by night and in the cloud by day.
34
And Jehovah heard the sound of your words, and was angry, and swore, saying,
35
Not one of these men of this evil generation shall see that good land which I have sworn to give to your fathers,
36
except Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him and his children I am giving the land upon which he has walked, because he has wholly followed Jehovah.
37
Jehovah was also angry with me on account of you, saying, You also shall not go in there.
38
Joshua the son of Nun, who stands before you, he shall go in there. Encourage him, for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.
39
Moreover your little ones and your children, whom you say will be prey, who today have no knowledge of good and evil, they shall go in there; to them I will give it, and they shall possess it.
40
But as for you, turn and set out into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea.
41
Then you answered and said to me, We have sinned against Jehovah; we will go up and fight, just as Jehovah our God commanded us. And each of you girded on his weapons of war, and were ready to go up into the mountain.
42
And Jehovah said to me, Say to them, Do not go up nor fight, for I am not among you; lest you be struck down before your enemies.
43
So I spoke to you; yet you would not listen, but rebelled against the mouth of Jehovah, and presumptuously went up into the mountain.
44
And the Amorites who dwelt in that mountain came out against you and chased you as bees do, and shattered you in pieces from Seir to Hormah.
45
And you returned and wept before Jehovah, but Jehovah would not listen to your voice nor give ear to you.
46
So you remained in Kadesh many days, according to the days that you remained there.

And Jehovah, He is going before you. He will be with you; He will not abandon you nor forsake you. Do not fear nor be dismayed.

Joshua 24:1-33

And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem and summoned the elders of Israel, their heads, their judges, and their officers; and they presented themselves before God.

And Joshua said to all the people, Thus says Jehovah the God of Israel: Your fathers (Terah, the father of Abraham and of Nahor) dwelt on the other side of the River in ancient times; and they served other gods.
3
And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the River, led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed and gave him Isaac.
4
To Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. To Esau I gave the mountains of Seir to possess, but Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt.
5
And I sent Moses and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to what I have done among them. Afterward I have brought you out.
6
And I brought your fathers out of Egypt, and you came to the sea; and the Egyptians pursued your fathers with chariots and horsemen to the Red Sea.
7
And they cried out unto Jehovah; and He put darkness between you and the Egyptians, brought the sea upon them, and covered them. And your eyes saw what I have done in Egypt. And you dwelt in the wilderness many days.
8
And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, who dwelt on the other side of the Jordan, and they fought with you. But I gave them into your hand, that you might possess their land, and I destroyed them before you.
9
Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose to make war against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you.
10
But I was not willing to heed Balaam; therefore he continued to bless you. And I delivered you out of his hand.
11
And you went over the Jordan and came to Jericho. And the lords of Jericho fought against you; also the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. But I delivered them into your hand.
12
I sent the hornet before you which drove them out before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; not with your sword or with your bow.
13
I have given you a land for which you have not labored, and cities which you have not built, and you dwell in them; you are eating of the vineyards and olive groves which you have not planted.
14
Now therefore, fear Jehovah, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers have served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve Jehovah!
15
And if it seems evil to you to serve Jehovah, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers have served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my house, we will serve Jehovah.
16
And the people answered and said: Far be it from us to forsake Jehovah to serve other gods;
17
for Jehovah our God is He who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, who has done those great signs before our eyes, and preserved us in all the way that we have gone and among all the people through whom we have passed.
18
And Jehovah drove out before us all the people, including the Amorites who were living in the land. We also will serve Jehovah, for He is our God.
19
And Joshua said to the people, You cannot serve Jehovah, for He is a holy God. He is a jealous Mighty God; He will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.
20
If you forsake Jehovah and serve foreign gods, then He will turn and do evil and consume you, after He has done you good.
21
And the people said to Joshua, No, but we will serve Jehovah!
22
And Joshua said to the people, You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen Jehovah for yourselves, to serve Him. And they said, We are witnesses.
23
Now therefore, he said, put away the foreign gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto Jehovah the God of Israel.
24
And the people said to Joshua, Jehovah our God we will serve, and His voice we will obey!
25
So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and established for them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.
26
And Joshua wrote these words in the Book of the Law of God. And he took a large stone, and set it up there under the oak that was by the sanctuary of Jehovah.
27
And Joshua said to all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness to us, for it has heard all the words of Jehovah which He has spoken to us. It shall therefore be a witness to you, lest you deny your God.
28
So Joshua sent the people away, each to his inheritance.
29
And it came to pass after these things that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Jehovah, died, being one hundred and ten years old.
30
And they buried him within the border of his inheritance at Timnath Serah, in the mountains of Ephraim, on the north side of Mount Gaash.
31
And Israel served Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders whose days were prolonged after Joshua, who had known all the works of Jehovah which He had done for Israel.
32
And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel had brought up out of Egypt, they buried at Shechem, in the plot of ground which Jacob had bought from the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for one hundred pieces of silver, and which had become an inheritance of the sons of Joseph.
33
And Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in a hill belonging to Phinehas his son, which had been given to him in the mountains of Ephraim.
