By faith he sojourned in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise;

And Jacob came in peace to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Paddan; and he pitched his tent before the city.

And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, chief of the land, saw her, he took her and lay with her, and humbled her.

So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods which were in their hands, and the earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the terebinth tree which was by Shechem.

So they appointed Kedesh in Galilee, in the mountains of Naphtali, Shechem in the mountains of Ephraim, and Kirjath Arba (which is Hebron) in the mountains of Judah.

And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel had brought up out of Egypt, they buried at Shechem, in the plot of ground which Jacob had bought from the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for one hundred pieces of silver, and which had become an inheritance of the sons of Joseph.

Then Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem, to his mother's brothers, and spoke with them and with all the family of the house of his mother's father, saying,

And Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.

So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

And they were carried back to Shechem and laid in the tomb that Abraham bought for a price of money from the sons of Hamor of Shechem.

Are they not on the other side of the Jordan, toward the setting sun, in the land of the Canaanites who dwell in the plain opposite Gilgal, beside the plains of Moreh.

Then Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) and all the people who were with him arose early and encamped beside the well of Harod, so that the camp of the Midianites was on the north side of them by the hill of Moreh in the valley.

Canaan begot Sidon his firstborn, and Heth;

the Arvadite, the Zemarite, and the Hamathite. Afterward the families of the Canaanites were scattered.

And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; then as you go toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.

And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and the herdsmen of Lot's livestock. The Canaanites and the Perizzites then dwelt in the land.

On that day Jehovah made a covenant with Abram, saying: To your seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates;

the Hittites, the Perizzites, the giants,
