For He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler, from [every] troublesome matter.

While the ungodly one acts proudly, the poor is hotly pursued; [the wicked] are taken in the crafty counsels which they imagine.

Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of sinners move me.

Blessed [is] the man whose hope is in the name of the Lord, and [who] has not regarded vanities, nor turned aside to lies.

O God, transgressors have risen up against me, and an assembly of violent [men] have sought my life; and have not set You before them.

The proud have hid a snare for me, and have stretched out ropes [for] snares for my feet; they set a stumbling block for me near the path. Pause.

For now I know that the Lord is great above all gods, because of this, wherein they attacked them.

But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

You have sheltered me from the conspiracy of them that do wickedly; from the multitude of them that work iniquity;

to shoot in secret at the blameless; they will shoot him suddenly, and will not fear.

They have sharpened their tongue as [the tongue] of a serpent; the poison of asps is under their lips. Pause.

He shall hide you from the scourge of the tongue, and you shall not be afraid of coming evils.

Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelries and drinking bouts, not in orgies and debaucheries, not in strife and jealousy.

For I am afraid, lest perhaps when I come, I will not find you as I desire, and that I will be found by you as you do not desire; lest perhaps there [be] contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, disputes, slanders, gossipings, pride, disorders;

idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions,

he is puffed up, understanding nothing, but [is] morbidly concerned with disputes and word battles, from which come envy, strife, slanders, evil suspicions,

Even so the tongue is a small member and it boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. Thus the tongue is set among our members, as that which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.

But if you have bitter jealousy and strife in your heart, do not boast and lie against the truth.

For where jealousy and strife [exist], there unrest and every evil deed [are].
