So I will startle them with one unexpected blow after another. Those who are wise will turn out to be fools, and all their cleverness will be useless."

Does the war trumpet sound in a city without making the people afraid? Does disaster strike a city unless the LORD sends it?

The Sovereign LORD never does anything without revealing his plan to his servants, the prophets.

Then the LORD said to his people, "Keep watching the nations around you, and you will be astonished at what you see. I am going to do something that you will not believe when you hear about it.

'Look, you scoffers! Be astonished and die! For what I am doing today is something that you will not believe, even when someone explains it to you!' "

So I, the LORD God of Israel, will bring such a disaster on Jerusalem and Judah that everyone who hears about it will be stunned.

It will strike you again and again, morning after morning. You will have to bear it day and night. Each new message from God will bring new terror!

The LORD told me to say, "Kings of Judah and people of Jerusalem, listen to what I, the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, have to say. I am going to bring such a disaster on this place that everyone who hears about it will be stunned.

People will faint from fear as they wait for what is coming over the whole earth, for the powers in space will be driven from their courses.
