They fail to see why they were defeated; they cannot understand what happened.

At your feasts you have harps and tambourines and flutes---and wine. But you don't understand what the LORD is doing,

It never enters their heads that I will remember all this evil; but their sins surround them, and I cannot avoid seeing them."

The LORD has shown you this, to prove to you that he alone is God and that there is no other.

We were afraid as soon as we heard about it; we have all lost our courage because of you. The LORD your God is God in heaven above and here on earth.

You are great and powerful, glorious, splendid, and majestic. Everything in heaven and earth is yours, and you are king, supreme ruler over all.

and prayed aloud, "O LORD God of our ancestors, you rule in heaven over all the nations of the world. You are powerful and mighty, and no one can oppose you.

Our God is in heaven; he does whatever he wishes.

He does whatever he wishes in heaven and on earth, in the seas and in the depths below.

He looks on the people of the earth as nothing; angels in heaven and people on earth are under his control. No one can oppose his will or question what he does.
