After his arrest Peter was put in jail, where he was handed over to be guarded by four groups of four soldiers each. Herod planned to put him on trial in public after Passover.

and put them in prison in the house of the captain of the guard, in the same place where Joseph was being kept.

With that, he put them in prison for three days.

and was put under guard, because it was not clear what should be done with him.

The sentry calls out, "Sir, I have been standing guard at my post day and night."

But that night an angel of the Lord opened the prison gates, led the apostles out, and said to them,

Suddenly there was a violent earthquake, which shook the prison to its foundations. At once all the doors opened, and the chains fell off all the prisoners.

The LORD has chosen Cyrus to be king. He has appointed him to conquer nations; he sends him to strip kings of their power; the LORD will open the gates of cities for him. To Cyrus the LORD says,

"I myself will prepare your way, leveling mountains and hills. I will break down bronze gates and smash their iron bars.

It was late that Sunday evening, and the disciples were gathered together behind locked doors, because they were afraid of the Jewish authorities. Then Jesus came and stood among them. "Peace be with you," he said.

A week later the disciples were together again indoors, and Thomas was with them. The doors were locked, but Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you."

"To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: "This is the message from the one who is holy and true. He has the key that belonged to David, and when he opens a door, no one can close it, and when he closes it, no one can open it.
