Then Pilate set Barabbas free for them; and after he had Jesus whipped, he handed him over to be crucified.

They stripped off his clothes and put a scarlet robe on him.

They put a purple robe on Jesus, made a crown out of thorny branches, and put it on his head.

So I will have him whipped and let him go."

But they kept on shouting at the top of their voices that Jesus should be crucified, and finally their shouting succeeded.

They cut deep wounds in my back and made it like a plowed field.

After a severe beating, they were thrown into jail, and the jailer was ordered to lock them up tight.

The Roman commander ordered his men to take Paul into the fort, and he told them to whip him in order to find out why the Jews were screaming like this against him.

But when they had tied him up to be whipped, Paul said to the officer standing there, "Is it lawful for you to whip a Roman citizen who hasn't even been tried for any crime?"

Some were mocked and whipped, and others were put in chains and taken off to prison.

Christ himself carried our sins in his body to the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. It is by his wounds that you have been healed.
