As Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the desert, in the same way the Son of Man must be lifted up,

Then the people again picked up stones to throw at him.

They answered, "We do not want to stone you because of any good deeds, but because of your blasphemy! You are only a man, but you are trying to make yourself God!"

When I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to me."

(In saying this he indicated the kind of death he was going to suffer.)

and then hand him over to the Gentiles, who will make fun of him, whip him, and crucify him; but three days later he will be raised to life."

"In two days, as you know, it will be the Passover Festival, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified."

Then the women remembered his words,

They kept on stoning Stephen as he called out to the Lord, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!"

it is not to remain there overnight. It must be buried the same day, because a dead body hanging on a post brings God's curse on the land. Bury the body, so that you will not defile the land that the LORD your God is giving you.

An evil gang is around me; like a pack of dogs they close in on me; they tear at my hands and feet.

But by becoming a curse for us Christ has redeemed us from the curse that the Law brings; for the scripture says, "Anyone who is hanged on a tree is under God's curse."
