Matthew 27:17-21

So when the crowd gathered, Pilate asked them, "Which one do you want me to set free for you? Jesus Barabbas or Jesus called the Messiah?"

He knew very well that the Jewish authorities had handed Jesus over to him because they were jealous.

While Pilate was sitting in the judgment hall, his wife sent him a message: "Have nothing to do with that innocent man, because in a dream last night I suffered much on account of him."

The chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask Pilate to set Barabbas free and have Jesus put to death.

But Pilate asked the crowd, "Which one of these two do you want me to set free for you?" "Barabbas!" they answered.

But according to the custom you have, I always set free a prisoner for you during the Passover. Do you want me to set free for you the king of the Jews?"

It was then almost noon of the day before the Passover. Pilate said to the people, "Here is your king!"

They shouted back, "Kill him! Kill him! Crucify him!" Pilate asked them, "Do you want me to crucify your king?" The chief priests answered, "The only king we have is the Emperor!"

Then Pilate handed Jesus over to them to be crucified. So they took charge of Jesus.
Acts 3:13-15

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our ancestors, has given divine glory to his Servant Jesus. But you handed him over to the authorities, and you rejected him in Pilate's presence, even after Pilate had decided to set him free.

He was holy and good, but you rejected him, and instead you asked Pilate to do you the favor of turning loose a murderer.

You killed the one who leads to life, but God raised him from death---and we are witnesses to this.
