All these things are like the first pains of childbirth.

While I was looking, I could still hear the little horn bragging and boasting. As I watched, the fourth beast was killed, and its body was thrown into the flames and destroyed.

The other beasts had their power taken away, but they were permitted to go on living for a limited time.

"In the days after that time of trouble the sun will grow dark, the moon will no longer shine,

the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers in space will be driven from their courses.

Every star and every constellation will stop shining, the sun will be dark when it rises, and the moon will give no light.

The moon will grow dark, and the sun will no longer shine, for the LORD Almighty will be king. He will rule in Jerusalem on Mount Zion, and the leaders of the people will see his glory.

I looked at the earth---it was a barren waste; at the sky---there was no light.

I saw that there were no people; even the birds had flown away.

(The LORD has said that the whole earth will become a wasteland, but that he will not completely destroy it.)

When I destroy you, I will cover the sky and blot out the stars. The sun will hide behind the clouds, and the moon will give no light.

I will put out all the lights of heaven and plunge your world into darkness. I, the Sovereign LORD, have spoken.

The earth shakes as they advance; the sky trembles. The sun and the moon grow dark, and the stars no longer shine.

"I will give warnings of that day in the sky and on the earth; there will be bloodshed, fire, and clouds of smoke.

"There will be strange things happening to the sun, the moon, and the stars. On earth whole countries will be in despair, afraid of the roar of the sea and the raging tides.

People will faint from fear as they wait for what is coming over the whole earth, for the powers in space will be driven from their courses.

I will perform miracles in the sky above and wonders on the earth below. There will be blood, fire, and thick smoke;

the sun will be darkened, and the moon will turn red as blood, before the great and glorious Day of the Lord comes.

And I saw the Lamb break open the sixth seal. There was a violent earthquake, and the sun became black like coarse black cloth, and the moon turned completely red like blood.

The sky disappeared like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved from its place.

They called out to the mountains and to the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the eyes of the one who sits on the throne and from the anger of the Lamb!

But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief. On that Day the heavens will disappear with a shrill noise, the heavenly bodies will burn up and be destroyed, and the earth with everything in it will vanish.
