For God said, 'Respect your father and your mother,' and 'If you curse your father or your mother, you are to be put to death.'

they do not need to honor their father. In this way you disregard God's command, in order to follow your own teaching.

Each of you must respect your mother and your father, and must keep the Sabbath, as I have commanded. I am the LORD your God.

If you make fun of your father or despise your mother in her old age, you ought to be eaten by vultures or have your eyes picked out by wild ravens.

Children, it is your Christian duty to obey your parents, for this is the right thing to do.

"Respect your father and mother" is the first commandment that has a promise added:

The second most important commandment is like it: 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself.'

Do not take revenge on others or continue to hate them, but love your neighbors as you love yourself. I am the LORD.

The man answered, " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind'; and 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself.' "

The commandments, "Do not commit adultery; do not commit murder; do not steal; do not desire what belongs to someone else"---all these, and any others besides, are summed up in the one command, "Love your neighbor as you love yourself."

For the whole Law is summed up in one commandment: "Love your neighbor as you love yourself."

You will be doing the right thing if you obey the law of the Kingdom, which is found in the scripture, "Love your neighbor as you love yourself."
