Jonah was very unhappy about this and became angry.

The LORD says, "Now, let's settle the matter. You are stained red with sin, but I will wash you as clean as snow. Although your stains are deep red, you will be as white as wool.

You should have had mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you.'

The older brother was so angry that he would not go into the house; so his father came out and begged him to come in.

But this son of yours wasted all your property on prostitutes, and when he comes back home, you kill the prize calf for him!'

But we had to celebrate and be happy, because your brother was dead, but now he is alive; he was lost, but now he has been found.' "

He said, "Go to Nineveh, that great city, and speak out against it; I am aware of how wicked its people are."

He said, "Go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to the people the message I have given you."

So Jonah obeyed the LORD and went to Nineveh, a city so large that it took three days to walk through it.

"Then the LORD said to all of us, 'Your children, who are still too young to know right from wrong, will enter the land---the children you said would be seized by your enemies. I will give the land to them, and they will occupy it.

Your righteousness is towering like the mountains; your justice is like the depths of the sea. People and animals are in your care.

You make grass grow for the cattle and plants for us to use, so that we can grow our crops

All of them depend on you to give them food when they need it.

You give it to them, and they eat it; you provide food, and they are satisfied.

The LORD is loving and merciful, slow to become angry and full of constant love.

He is good to everyone and has compassion on all he made.

All living things look hopefully to you, and you give them food when they need it.

You give them enough and satisfy the needs of all.
