Now, as he promised, the LORD your God has given the other Israelites peace. So go back home to the land which you claimed for your own, the land on the east side of the Jordan, that Moses, the LORD's servant, gave you.

Much later the LORD gave Israel security from their enemies around them. By that time Joshua was very old,

If Joshua had given the people the rest that God had promised, God would not have spoken later about another day.

For those who receive that rest which God promised will rest from their own work, just as God rested from his.

Where is the LORD, who by his power did great things through Moses, dividing the waters of the sea and leading his people through the deep water, to win everlasting fame for himself ?" Led by the LORD, they were as sure-footed as wild horses, and never stumbled.

But I promise that as surely as I live and as surely as my presence fills the earth,

There is no other nation on earth like Israel, whom you rescued from slavery to make them your own people. The great and wonderful things you did for them have spread your fame throughout the world. You drove out other nations and their gods as your people advanced, the people whom you set free from Egypt to be your own.

Now, our God, we give you thanks, and we praise your glorious name.

The following Levites gave a call to worship: Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah. They said: "Stand up and praise the LORD your God; praise him forever and ever! Let everyone praise his glorious name, although no human praise is great enough."

"Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom he is pleased!"

Let us praise God for his glorious grace, for the free gift he gave us in his dear Son!

Let us, then, who were the first to hope in Christ, praise God's glory!
