But in a moment, in a single day, both of these things will happen. In spite of all the magic you use, you will lose your husband and children.

"You felt sure of yourself in your evil; you thought that no one could see you. Your wisdom and knowledge led you astray, and you said to yourself, 'I am God--- there is no one else like me.'

But people will tell you to ask for messages from fortunetellers and mediums, who chirp and mutter. They will say, "After all, people should ask for messages from the spirits and consult the dead on behalf of the living."

I am going to frustrate the plans of the Egyptians and destroy their morale. They will ask their idols to help them, and they will go and consult mediums and ask the spirits of the dead for advice.

I make fools of fortunetellers and frustrate the predictions of astrologers. The words of the wise I refute and show that their wisdom is foolishness.

Then the king called for his wise men and magicians, and by their magic they did the same thing.

But the magicians used magic, and they also made frogs come up on the land.

The magicians tried to use their magic to make gnats appear, but they failed. There were gnats everywhere,

and the magicians said to the king, "God has done this!" But the king was stubborn and, just as the LORD had said, the king would not listen to Moses and Aaron.

The magicians were not able to appear before Moses, because they were covered with boils, like all the other Egyptians.

"Where are the gods that you made for yourselves? When you are in trouble, let them save you---if they can! Judah, you have as many gods as you have cities.

He shouted for someone to bring in the magicians, wizards, and astrologers. When they came in, the king said to them, "Anyone who can read this writing and tell me what it means will be dressed in robes of royal purple, wear a gold chain of honor around his neck, and be the third in power in the kingdom."

In his distress King Belshazzar grew even paler, and his noblemen had no idea what to do.

Nineveh the whore is being punished. Attractive and full of deadly charms, she enchanted nations and enslaved them.

But they were opposed by the magician Elymas (that is his name in Greek), who tried to turn the governor away from the faith.

and said, "You son of the Devil! You are the enemy of everything that is good. You are full of all kinds of evil tricks, and you always keep trying to turn the Lord's truths into lies!

When the governor saw what had happened, he believed; for he was greatly amazed at the teaching about the Lord.

The Wicked One will come with the power of Satan and perform all kinds of false miracles and wonders,

And so God sends the power of error to work in them so that they believe what is false.

The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and covered with gold ornaments, precious stones, and pearls. In her hand she held a gold cup full of obscene and filthy things, the result of her immorality.

And I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God's people and the blood of those who were killed because they had been loyal to Jesus. When I saw her, I was completely amazed.
