Someone in authority who oppresses poor people is like a driving rain that destroys the crops.

May his children be homeless beggars; may they be driven from the ruins they live in!

They will have to give up all they have worked for; they will have no chance to enjoy their wealth,

The LORD made the Egyptians respect the people and give them what they asked for. In this way the Israelites carried away the wealth of the Egyptians.

"If someone steals a cow or a sheep and kills it or sells it, he must pay five cows for one cow and four sheep for one sheep.

(SEE 22:2)

If you again refuse to let them go,

For having done such a cruel thing, he must pay back four times as much as he took."

yet if he is caught, he must pay back seven times more---he must give up everything he has.

Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Listen, sir! I will give half my belongings to the poor, and if I have cheated anyone, I will pay back four times as much."
