The LORD will punish Joab for those murders, which he committed without my father David's knowledge. Joab killed two innocent men who were better men than he: Abner, commander of the army of Israel, and Amasa, commander of the army of Judah.

A good person who gives in to someone who is evil reminds you of a polluted spring or a poisoned well.

The law is weak and useless, and justice is never done. Evil people get the better of the righteous, and so justice is perverted.

LORD, from the very beginning you are God. You are my God, holy and eternal. LORD, my God and protector, you have chosen the Babylonians and made them strong so that they can punish us.

We must not be like Cain; he belonged to the Evil One and murdered his own brother Abel. Why did Cain murder him? Because the things he himself did were wrong, and the things his brother did were right.

When Abner arrived in Hebron, Joab took him aside at the gate, as though he wanted to speak privately with him, and there he stabbed him in the stomach. And so Abner was murdered because he had killed Joab's brother Asahel.

Even though I am the king chosen by God, I feel weak today. These sons of Zeruiah are too violent for me. May the LORD punish these criminals as they deserve!"

If anyone takes human life, he will be punished. I will punish with death any animal that takes a human life.

Human beings were made like God, so whoever murders one of them will be killed by someone else.

"Whoever hits someone and kills him is to be put to death.

Murderers must be put to death. They cannot escape this penalty by the payment of money.

If you did this, you would defile the land where you are living. Murder defiles the land, and except by the death of the murderer there is no way to perform the ritual of purification for the land where someone has been murdered.

God remembers those who suffer; he does not forget their cry, and he punishes those who wrong them.

You are placed under a curse and can no longer farm the soil. It has soaked up your brother's blood as if it had opened its mouth to receive it when you killed him.

God said to Noah, "I have decided to put an end to all people. I will destroy them completely, because the world is full of their violent deeds.

The LORD destroyed all living beings on the earth---human beings, animals, and birds. The only ones left were Noah and those who were with him in the boat.

If I had raised my hand to strike you and your people with disease, you would have been completely destroyed.

May the LORD always remember their sins, but may they themselves be completely forgotten!

But God will snatch the wicked from the land and pull sinners out of it like plants from the ground.

(You people must tell them that the gods who did not make the earth and the sky will be destroyed. They will no longer exist anywhere on earth.)
